In a move to further strengthen the water justice campaign in the region, a total of 21 participants gathered for the South Asia Right to Water Capacity Building Workshop on 16 October 2007 in Bangkok, Thailand, organized by the Water for the People Network.

The workshop utilized the Right to Water module prepared by the network. Speakers during the workshop were Mr. Antonio Tujan Jr. and Maria Teresa Dominguez (IBON International), Mr. Rabin Subedi (WAFED) and Mr. Ashraf-ul-Alam Tutu (Coastal Development Partnership).

Majority of the participants came from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Nepal. However, participants outside the South Asia sub-region, signifying their interest to join the workshop, were allowed to attend; they were from the Philippines, Hong Kong, Thailand and Indonesia.

After the training, the participants gave suggestions on how to improve the RTW module to make it more appropriate to South Asian context; more case studies were proposed and the importance of the river linking issue was emphasized.

The workshop was supported by the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.
